In the year 2000, I prayed a simple prayer.
Our church mission team was preparing for a trip, and I longed to go with them. But I was very pregnant at the time, and financially, we were struggling. I couldn’t travel, and we didn’t even have the money to buy soap to send with them. I wanted to help, but I didn’t know how.
So I prayed.
I asked God to make a way for us to send soap with the mission team—to bless others, even though we couldn’t go ourselves. I had no idea how it would happen, but I trusted that He would provide.
A Phone Call and Two Barrels of Provision
The very next day, I received a phone call from a local processor.
"Ms. Jenny, I have two 55-gallon drums of rendered lard. Do you think you could use them?"
I was stunned. I hadn't told anyone about my prayer. Yet here was my answer, arriving in the back of a truck. That afternoon, she drove those barrels right up to our farm and dropped them off.
Our family got to work immediately, stirring, pouring, cutting, and wrapping. We turned those barrels of lard into the best lye soap we knew how to make. And when the mission team left, they took with them a supply of handmade soap—born from a prayer and an unexpected blessing.
Still Making It the Same Way
That moment shaped our soap-making journey in a way I never could have imagined.
Twenty-five years later, we are still making our lye soap the same way we did back then—pure, simple, and made with faith. It’s more than just soap; it’s a reminder that God provides, that prayers are heard, and that even something as small as a bar of soap can be part of a bigger story.
